About Dr. Sparano
Dr. Sparano is a board certified physician respected as a skilled surgeon with a distinguished education. He completed a residency at the University of Pennsylvania and a prestigious fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Sparano’s facial plastic and reconstructive practice focuses specifically on the face and neck. Dr. Sparano has also helped develop the Coastal Comprehensive Skin Care Program for life-long maintenance of healthy and beautiful skin for a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
Dr. Sparano practices with integrity and careful attention to detail using a patient-centered approach. In addition to his surgical services, he performs all non-invasive Botox® Cosmetic, injectable filler, laser, light, and skin care treatments himself. Coastal Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is a regional teaching facility for a leading laser company to educate on the techniques of advanced laser treatments including fractional CO2 resurfacing and diode permanent hair removal.
Dr. Sparano is an accomplished surgeon-scientist within his disciplines. He has won 10 regional or national research awards, has authored over 27 original peer-reviewed publications, 7 book chapters, and has been invited to present his research nationally extensively during his career. Dr. Sparano combines the clinical skill-set of a well-trained facial plastic surgeon with the scientific approach of a research investigator, while providing exceptional care for his patients’ best interests and well-being.
Dr. Sparano lives in New Jersey and enjoys running, golfing, tennis, fishing, art, literature, and music, and above all, spending time with his family.

Surgical Procedures
Rhinoplasty/Enhancement of the nose
Rhinoplasty can improve the shape or function of your nose. The nose can be rotated, shortened, lengthened, straightened, narrowed, or adjusted to meet your aesthetic goals. Functional surgery can help you breathe with less resistance overall, in appropriate circumstances. Dr. Sparano offers free graphic morphing with every consultation to help with communication and discussion of expected postoperative results.
Facelift
The aging face is a composite challenge often requiring attention to various aspects of the face, using different techniques. Rhytidectomy (facelifting) is a surgical procedure mostly addressing the mid- and lower-face and neck. Dr. Sparano does not believe the same facelift technique should be applied to every aging face. A customized approach should be embraced surgically, as well as pre- and post-surgically to help achieve a refreshed and natural rejuvenated appearance.
Forehead or Brow Lifting
As an individual ages, the skin at the forehead, temples, and eyebrows relaxes and may furrow or descend. Forehead or brow lifting can address this problem, and these procedures can often be combined with a facelift for a balanced rejuvenation of the upper and lower face. Dr. Sparano uses both open and endoscopic techniques for these procedures.
Blepharoplasty / Eyelid Surgery
The aging process brings with it a loosening of the skin and often bulging of the underlying fat collections of the upper and lower eyelids. Many individuals notice this phenomenon as early as their thirties. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves excision of the excess skin and protruding fat around the eyelids with disguised incisions. Blepharoplasty is a powerful surgical procedure often with impressive postoperative results.
Facial Liposculpting
Across recent decades, we have come to better understand the aging process and associated physiologic changes. Often, with aging come a loss of facial volume and an increased laxity of certain facial areas which are ultimately responsible for the aged appearance. One very effective method of addressing this phenomenon is by way of facial liposculpting. This involves the transfer of fat from some areas of the body (often the abdomen) to specific “hollowed” areas of the face, sometimes with associated liposuctioning of other facial areas. The procedure yields a more youthful appearance, and is sometimes combined with laser skin resurfacing.
Necklift
The aging process often involves increased laxity and sagging of the neck. Sometimes the neck can appear more aged than the rest of the face. Necklift surgery is often combined with rhytidectomy (facelift) surgery, but is sometimes an excellent option when performed alone, or in combination with neck liposuction. The procedure involves removal and redraping of excess skin, fat, and muscle for more contoured neck and jaw lines.
Facial Implants
Facial beauty involves the appearance of ideal bone structure. Sometimes this can be achieved by augmenting the existing bony framework with facial implants. Augmentation of the chin or cheeks can bring a recessed mandible or midface in harmony with other facial features for a more balanced and appealing look.
Otoplasty (Reshaping/Repositioning of the Ears)
Protruding or malformed ears can become a major source of insecurity for an individual. These phenomena can be addressed by repositioning and reshaping surgical techniques with predictable and pleasing outcomes.
Scar Revision
Scars can manifest in a variety of ways, and as a result, there is a variety of techniques used to revise scars. These techniques can range from the injection of dermal fillers, to dermabrasion or laser resurfacing, to direct excision.
Skin Cancer Reconstructive Surgery
Defects of the face, scalp, and neck following resection of skin cancer offer surgical challenges of both form and function. Facial reconstructive surgery demands a specialized skill-set which combines optimal cosmetic outcomes with minimal functional impairment. Dr. Sparano is trained in reconstructive surgical techniques of the face, scalp, and neck, and is dedicated to providing customized and meticulous care for his skin cancer patients.

Non-surgical Procedures
Botox® Cosmetic
Botox® Cosmetic is a safe treatment which has been used to treat multiple conditions over the previous 15 years, and is FDA-approved to treat the wrinkles between the eyebrows. Botox® Cosmetic is a natural purified protein that is used to relax the muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles. Dr. Sparano takes a scientific approach to his injections, so that based on each patient’s unique facial anatomy, he can help his patients achieve the refreshed appearance they’re looking for.

FDA Approved Soft Tissue Fillers
Dr. Sparano uses only FDA approved injectable soft tissue fillers to restore facial volume and fill out wrinkles, facial depressions, or facial asymmetries for a refreshed and healthy appearance. Soft tissue fillers can also be used to augment (“plump up”) the lips, sculpt the cheeks, and restore a youthful shape to the face much like a facelift. The injectable used and technique selected is customized for each patient. Dr. Sparano will perform
the injections himself. Soft tissue fillers offer a powerful and impressive method of delivering beautiful results with minimal “downtime.”
Latisse™
Latisse™ solution is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or insufficient eyelashes. Latisse™ prolongs the anagen (or growth) phase of hairs, as well as the percentage of hairs in this phase. As a result, lashes can grow longer, thicker, and darker.
Permanent Diode Hair Reduction
Dr. Sparano and Coastal are proud to offer the LightSheer system of diode hair removal, which has been backed by long-term clinical data as a “gold standard” application in the permanent reduction of hair growth. The LightSheer diode can be used on all skin colors and hair types safely. The ChillTip handpiece provides the ultimate in epidermal contact cooling and compression.

Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Dr. Sparano and Coastal are now offering the UltraPulse Encore system for fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. The UltraPulse technology delivers fractional treatments encompassing Pigment FX™, ActiveFX™, DeepFX™, and TotalFX™. Each application involves treating the skin in a customized fashion with controlled depth, and leaves surrounding healthy skin to aid in the regeneration process. The UltraPulse technology is designed to deliver effective results comparable to older, traditional resurfacing procedures, without the associated downtime!
Dyschromias are pigmented areas located superficially in the skin. These respond best 
to sub-ablative treatments at the appropriate depth with less area of skin untreated. The PigmentFX™ laser accomplishes exactly this objective in a single treatment with an associated healing time of about 1-2 days.
Active FX™
The ActiveFX™ laser is designed to treat dyschromias (pigmented areas) as well as wrinkles of the skin with approximately 3-5 days of healing time after a single treatment.
Deep FX™
The DeepFX™ laser is designed to treat scars, dermal lesions, and to stimulate long-term skin remodeling for a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. This is accomplished after a single treatment with about 2-3 days of healing time.
Total FX™
The TotalFX™ laser is designed to treat dyschromias (pigmented areas), wrinkles, scars, dermal lesions, and to stimulate long-term skin remodeling for a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. This is accomplished after a single treatment with about 4-6 days of healing time.
Photo Rejuvenation
Our LumenisOne Universal IPL allows for treatment of photo-damaged skin, age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigmented areas, broken capillaries and red spots, and the redness or erythema of rosacea or scars without downtime. A full face can be treated in 15 minutes or less. Our system has continuous SapphireCool sapphire contact cooling for enhanced patient comfort.
Multi-Spot Nd:YAG
Using proven 1064nm technology for the treatment of deeper lesions, this laser allows for the treatment of leg veins, vascular lesions, facial wrinkles, and more.

Chemical Peels
Our chemical peels are designed to correct facial wrinkling, and can be used as isolated treatments, or in combination with laser resurfacing, photorejuvenation, or to “fine tune” the results of facelift or eyelid surgery. Our peels are especially helpful around the eyes and lips, but can also reduce wrinkling of the entire face. We offer a glycolic peel program consisting of a series of in-office facial peels at 3-4 week intervals designed to rejuvenate the skin for a healthy appearance.
Microdermabrasion/Dermabrasion
Microdermabrasion can improve mild-to-moderate sun damage, scarring, wrinkles, or other superficial skin problems. A gentle stream of tiny particles exfoliates the outer layer of skin and provides a fresh and more youthful appearance. Only a superficial amount of skin is removed, so sensitive areas such as the face, chest, neck, arms, and hands can be treated. Results are comparable to a light chemical peel and should be immediately visible. Microdermabrasion is often performed in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation procedures, such as laser treatments and chemical peels. Multiple treatments are generally recommended for full optimal results.
Dermabrasion is being used less frequently at Coastal since the establishment of our Laser Skin Care Center. Dermabrasion is most helpful when used on facial scars, and often in combination with light or laser treatments.
